Illustration Friday - Talisman
Posting this at the 11th hour for this week's IF! The theme is Talisman. This is a pencil (with a touch of colour) drawing of an silver Omani necklace called a kirsh kitab (coin or disc with writing) which was worn by women throughout Northern Oman. Such necklaces were worn not only to offer protection, but also to bring gladness and cheerfulness to life. This necklace is part of a small collection of Omani silver I gathered whilst living in Muscat in the 1980's. I'm going to make a post about that soon!

Caroline! Whoa! Oh my goodness, this is incredible! So real, and all the detail.... Drawing the chain would have driven me absolutely batty, but you have it just perfect. And the pendant actually looks inscribed. Fabulous job! SOOOO worth waiting for!
ReplyDeleteCaroline, when I saw the image I was sure it was a photograph! I'm not sure what is more beautiful: your exquisite drawing or the Omani necklace itself, with its gorgeous design and wonderful meaning. What a great collection you must have, I can't wait to hear more about it!
ReplyDeleteBella, the necklace chain drove me indeed completely batty! I don't know how I finished it to be honest! EVery 5 mins I had to tell myself to just keep going! In fact the last little bits of chain were made up and I twisted them around to fit in as simply and quickly as possible........ I'd had enough!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, really? You did? Well, I would never have noticed!
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you, my inspirational friend!
I echo everyone.Photographic! Congratulations on your blog award. Don't explode like Bella :)
ReplyDeleteI enlarged it - INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCaroline I cannot believe you drew that, I thought it was a real necklace.
ReplyDeleteAbout the faith, thank you and you will see as I post, I believe and then I'm bullshit, and then I believe and then I'm bullshit. I believe today.

Caroline I still can't get over this, it is shocking that it is not real.
