Illustration Friday - Mesmerising

 Magpie - ©mixed media Caroline Soer 2011

Magpies love to cache - they seek out and hide appealing oddments.  This one has found a broken string of beads - Magpies seem to find shiny objects mesmerising.   Mixed media - Oil pastel, ink, gouache and glass beads on paper for Illustration Friday.
P.S.  Clicking on the image may take you to Blogger's new photo viewer (a new feature that doesn't always seem to work at the moment!).  If it does and you still want to view the image larger, right click, select 'view image' and then use the magnifier to enlarge again for greater detail.  Hopefully that will work!

  1. Lovely drawing...no, it didn't work for me. When I do it for mine it has some tiny words on the bottom left side that when clicked on enlarge the picture...looks like a URL. But could see no words on yours. Oh well. the original is lovely.

  3. What a fabulous bird!! These guys sit above my skylight windows somedays and look down at me and have no fear of humans. Your landscape below for boundaries is lovely with the stone walls of England.

  5. This is so lovely! Magpies do seem to have a thing for shining objects (sometimes I feel like one, when I pass a jewelry store...)

  8. You so understand bird-ness. This magpie is so sassy- I had a pick up truck named Magpie- a 52 ford- but it did not fly...it smoked. Love your art, my girl! Delightful , brilliant! Thanks for coming along on the walk with me and Dexter...

  9. What a clever way to tie your painting to the prompt. I've never seen a Magpie but this one sure is pretty.

  14. I have a love/hate relationship with Magpies. They are so beautiful and their antics are fun to watch, but they can also be so noisy and mean. You've captured him beautifully!
